The roots of celebrating a feast of the Holy Trinity reach back to the Council of Nicaea in 325 when the bishops gathered to address the controversial preaching of Arius, a priest of Alexandria, a popular and engaging speaker.  Arius denied Chrit’s divinity, claiming that Jesus was a creature of God and therefore subordinate to God.  The bishops at Nicaea resolutely condemned Arias’ teaching by unequivocally proclaiming the divinity of Jesus, that the Father and the Son are of the same essence, the same substance.

The Most Holy Trinity is the eternal dialogue of love of the Holy Spirit between the Father and the Word.  These relationships are the very essence of God.  There has never been a time when God was not relational.

Without relationships, love cannot exist. Love is the relationship between lover and beloved. There must always be both. We are baptized into the Most Holy Trinity, sustained by the life and love of the Holy Trinity throughout our earthly journey and desire to attain heaven, eternity basking in the love and life of the Holy Trinity.

1023 Those who die in God’s grace and friendship and are perfectly purified live for ever with Christ. They are like God for ever, for they “see him as he is,” face to face.

1024 This perfect life with the Most Holy Trinity – this communion of life and love with the Trinity, with the Virgin Mary, the angels and all the blessed – is called “heaven.” Heaven is the ultimate end and fulfillment of the deepest human longings, the state of supreme, definitive happiness.(Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1994)

Upcoming Events:  Next weekend, June 6th – 7th, is the annual second collection for the Retirement Fund for Archdiocesan Priests – the pension fund for priests who belong to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.  (not to be confused with the Retirement Fund for Religious second collection which is taken in December – that collection is for women and men who belong to religious orders or communities.)

The following weekend, June 13th – 14th  is the Summer Mission Appeal by Fr. Max Ssekiwala from Uganda on behalf of Wells of Life who will speak about the impact of clean water, community development and faith in action in Uganda.

You are welcome to watch our 10:00 am Mass on YouTube either live or later that afternoon or evening.
