Pentecost is 50 days after Easter.  Because Easter is a movable feast and can fall between March 22 and April 25 and Pentecost depends on the date of Easter, Pentecost can fall between May 10 and June 13.  The name itself is derived from the prefix “penta” or 5 and from the Greek word “pentēkostḗ” meaning 50^th.

Pentecost, the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles in Fire and Wind: signs of divine power signifying purification transformation and the breath of divine life.

Pentecost, the gift of tongues/the miracle of languages.  The apostles began speaking in different tongues, understood by pilgrims from various nations.  This highlights the universal nature of the Church and its mission to all peoples, breaking down barriers of language, race, and culture.

Pentecost, a living reminder of the Holy Spirit’s presence in the Church today encouraging Catholics to:

• Open their hearts to divine inspiration
• Embrace unity and diversity in the body of Christ
• Live as witnesses of the Gospel in their daily lives
